R is for Rambling

R is for Rambling

I got stuck! I got stuck in a rut and could not come up with what in the Sam-hill the letter R could be the starting block for. I didn't like any of my ideas so I decided that I should combat the blank page in the only way that has ever worked for me - to just start rambling. It's an age old idea - one I know of from Anne Lamott (who wrote "Bird By Bird"). She talks of the necessity of just beginning with a "sh*tty first draft." Sometimes that needs to happen just as much in the middle of a project as the beginning. If you're too overwhelmed by the blank page and the blinking cursor of the mouse, you have to do something to change the equation. I have a friend who will change the font that he is writing in if he is getting stuck, or wants to change the tone and the visual clues help him to shift his focus. Another trick for when you are stuck is to flip the color scheme - if you're typing white on black, it feels different than black on white. Sometimes I need music, sometimes I need silence, sometimes I need a glass of water or sometimes it's coffee. Lets be honest, it is almost always coffee that I want. Here, I have finally stumbled upon a topic that has relevance - our coffee Brew Boos. I love the Brew Boos series and the coffee they represent. Today I feel that I am emboding our coffee "Billie Black." Billie is all about being your authentic self. My authentic self is someone who often rambles. I often have to stop myself when speaking and internally ask, "Is what I'm saying actually adding to this conversation?" and most often the answer is a hearty and sincere "no." We have now reached that point in this blog post so I wish you a great week!
